Hemorrhoids

We are all born with hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are cushions of tissue that contain small blood vessels.

Internal hemorrhoids form in the lining inside the anus and lower rectum.

External hemorrhoids form under the skin around your anus.

Symptoms of inflamed hemorrhoids:

  • Bleeding
  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Itching

Common causes of hemorrhoids:

  • Sitting on the toilet for a long time
  • Chronic constipation or diarrhea
  • Frequently lifting heavy objects
  • Pregnancy
  • Anal intercourse

Many people incorrectly refer to any symptom occurring around the anal area as hemorrhoids.  If you are experiencing symptoms, you should be evaluated by a medical professional to rule out anything more serious.
